Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Criticizes Putin Over Christmas Day Missile Attacks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy lashed out at Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday over missile attacks that struck Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on Christmas Day. Zelenskyy condemned the attacks as “inhumane,” saying that over 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than 100 attack drones targeted Ukraine’s energy facilities.
In a statement on social media, Zelenskyy stated that the Russian attacks were an attempt to spark a blackout in Ukraine, saying “Today, Putin deliberately chose Christmas for an attack. What could be more inhumane? Over 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than a hundred attack drones.” Despite the devastating attacks, Zelenskyy declared that “Russian evil will not break Ukraine and will not spoil Christmas.”
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks, saying that a “massive strike” had been carried out on Ukraine’s energy facilities that supported its military-industrial complex. Ukraine’s air force claimed that the attacks involved 78 air, ground, and sea-launched missiles, as well as 106 Shaheds and other kinds of drones.
Ukraine’s power engineers are working to restore power supply as soon as possible following the attacks, which have left several regions experiencing power outages.
