Tragedy Strikes Yoga Enthusiast as Giant Wave Sweeps Her to Her Death on Koh Sumui
A 24-year-old aspiring actress, Kamilla Belyatskaya, lost her life in a terrifying incident while practicing yoga on the tourist island of Koh Sumui in Thailand. The Russian national, from Novosibirsk, was swept away by a massive wave and pulled into the sea, leaving behind only her pink yoga mat.
Harrowing footage captured the moments before the tragedy, showing Belyatskaya sitting at the beauty spot before the wave hit, catching her off guard. She struggled and buffeted in the surging currents as her boyfriend and rescuers frantically tried to save her.
Belyatskaya had posted several times about her love for Koh Sumui on social media, calling it her “home” and “the best place on earth”. She had previously arrived at the Lad Ko Viewpoint in a red car and retrieved a pink foam mat from the boot, only to walk alone to the rocks to practice yoga.
Rescue teams arrived only 15 minutes after the incident, but it was too late to save Belyatskaya’s life. The body of the young actress was found two-thirds of a mile from where she was swept away, and an unidentified foreign man reportedly attempted to save her, without success.
The tragic incident is a sobering reminder of the dangers that come with visiting popular tourist spots during monsoon season. Thai authorities have emphasized the importance of warning tourists of potential risks, including strong wave surges and swimming areas marked by red flags.
