A 29-year-old Canadian woman was arrested at Auckland International Airport in New Zealand after attempting to smuggle over $2 million worth of methamphetamine wrapped as Christmas presents in her carry-on bag. The woman arrived on a flight from Vancouver on December 8 and was questioned by officers, who then searched her bag and discovered the illicit drugs concealed beneath brightly wrapped snowflake wrapping paper. The woman has since been charged with importation and possession for supply of a Class A controlled drug and has appeared in district court. Authorities say the bag contained the equivalent of more than $2 million U.S. dollars worth of the drug, and the woman has been taken into custody. The incident highlights the efforts of vigilant airport officers to catch those attempting to bring harm to New Zealand through drug trafficking.
