The Cleaner Trailer Reveals Daisy Ridley as a Window Cleaner Fighting Hostage Takers
The first official trailer for the upcoming action thriller Cleaner has been released by Sky Cinema. Directed by Martin Campbell, known for his work on the James Bond movies GoldenEye and Casino Royale, the film follows an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, Joey Locke, played by Daisy Ridley, who must save a group of hostages being held inside a skyscraper.
The trailer begins with Ridley’s character suspended 50 stories outside a London skyscraper as a group of criminal activists takes over an energy company’s annual gala to expose their greed and corruption. However, their cause is hijacked by an extremist willing to kill everyone in the building, leaving it up to Ridley’s cleaner to save the hostages trapped inside, including her younger brother.
The trailer’s action-packed sequences and suspenseful plot have drawn comparisons to Mission: Impossible and Die Hard. Ridley’s character rappelling down a skyscraper is reminiscent of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, while the plot of Cleaner is similar to Die Hard, with a military background character getting caught up in a terrorist takeover of a skyscraper during a party with a family member trapped inside.
It remains to be seen if Cleaner’s similarities to these action classics will help or hurt the film. On one hand, they are some of the best action movies of all time, and if Cleaner can recreate only an inkling of what made them great, it could be an entertaining experience for action fans. On the other hand, Cleaner risks being derivative of better action movies that came before it.
Daisy Ridley has recently starred in a number of films, including The Rise of Skywalker, Chaos Walking, and The Marsh King’s Daughter. However, she has also shown her range with successful roles in Sometimes I Think About Dying, Magpie, and Young Woman and the Sea. Hopefully, Cleaner will be able to find some success and continue Ridley’s recent hot streak.
Cleaner is set to release in theaters on February 21, 2025.
