Wayne Gretzky, the legendary NHL player, was spotted at Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, as Trump had previously teased “The Great One” as the next leader of Canada.
Gretzky was seated next to Dallas Mavericks owner Miriam Adelson and UFC president Dana White as Trump’s Cabinet nominees, lawmakers, and other dignitaries made their way into the Capitol Rotunda.
In December, Trump had written on Truth Social, urging Canadian citizens to start a “DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement” for him to run for Prime Minister of Canada, saying he wouldn’t even need to campaign and would win easily.
Trump also asked Gretzky to become the “governor of Canada” and said he would be a great fit for the role, although Gretzky didn’t seem interested.
This isn’t the first time Gretzky has been spotted with Trump, having also attended Trump’s election victory party in November.
Trump had previously tweeted on Christmas Day, “I just left Wayne Gretzky, ‘The Great One as he is known in Ice Hockey circles. I said, ‘Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada – You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign.'”
Gretzky’s presence at the inauguration comes as Trump has also suggested making Canada the “51st state” of the United States.
