Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed Thursday that his childhood home in Pacific Palisades, California has completely burned down in the Southern California wildfires. His parents purchased the house over 50 years ago.
Speaking before a game, Kerr said his family is fine, but his mom’s house is gone. “The town looks like it’s just been completely wiped out – it’s surreal and devastating,” he stated. At least seven people have died, and over 10,000 structures have been burned, from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena, due to strong winds fueling the fires.
Kerr, a resident of Pacific Palisades, shared fond memories of the home, including a dinner just two weeks prior and his mother’s 90th birthday celebration in the summer. The NBA coach called the loss “unfathomable”, as his family and friends are safe but his family home has been destroyed.
Entire blocks of homes are burned in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles, as containment for the largest fire stands at 6%. Officials urged residents to take precautions, with over 10,000 people evacuated and numerous animals injured.
