Vybz Kartel Is Not A Fan of Kendrick Lamar: ‘Drake Is Better’
Vybz Kartel, Jamaican dancehall artist, recently expressed his feelings about American rapper Kendrick Lamar stating that he favors Drake over him. Kartel, known for his hits in the Caribbean such as “Anthem” and “Clappas,” isn’t impressed by Lamar’s popularity and talent in the music scene.
It has been rumored for some time now that Vybz Kartel fans have been quite vocal about supporting Drake over some of his U.S. compatriots due to their style and content appealing more to reggae music preferences. The rapper’s statements provide further insight to this rivalry taking place between fan bases of Dancehall and what is now defined as ‘Punk Rock-inspired’ or just ‘hip- hop.’ Dancehall and Jamaica have played their part in promoting the spread and growth of new music globally within the music circles.
As these two different perspectives continue to stand out among rap and reggae fans worldwide; it can clearly be seen these two distinct yet influential musical formats have shaped musical preferences over their years and within their cultures.
