“Good evening, I’m Norah O’Donnell. I’m back out here with more on the explosive report about the final days of the Trump presidency. We’re going to go straight to what several Trump insiders have told me, about that January 6th tweet that helped spark a mob to storm the Capitol.
According to multiple sources, including some of Trump’s closest aides and those who were in the room, when the President saw the stark photos of the burning and looting, he became extremely agitated. His face turned red, and he started pacing around the Oval Office, saying, “The whole thing is a disaster. They’re just hooligans.”
One adviser told me, “He didn’t understand why people were so upset. He thought it was just a tiny little problem, and he said things like, ‘I’m going to make America great again, and this is just a minor setback.'”
Another top aide said, “He was like a ticking time bomb. He was so angry, just seething, and we were all worried he was going to throw his phone across the room.”
Trump’s social media team later that day sent out a tweet which read: “Look, something big is happening, I don’t know what, but something big is happening. Stay tuned, it’s going to be huge.”
Sources tell me that several of the President’s closest confidants, including his national security team, were aghast at the tweet. As one put it, “It was like he was trying to make the problem worse, not better.”
These sources said that’s when they knew they were dealing with a President who was not only detached from reality but also reckless and impulsive, with a complete disregard for the rule of law and the safety of the American people.”
