[Israel agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after four days of violence, which killed at least 27 Palestinians and five Israelis. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, there were three main reasons for this decision.
Firstly, Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, which intercepted many of the rockets fired from Gaza, was still functioning effectively, but Israel could not indefinitely maintain this high level of defense without facing significant budgetary constraints.
Secondly, international pressure was building, with several countries including the United States, calling for an end to the violence and urging both sides to reach a ceasefire.
Thirdly, Israel assessed that a continuation of the violence would likely lead to a strengthening of Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza, and could potentially escalate into a full-scale conflict with other militant organizations in the region.
