“He Wasn’t Done”: Officer Recalls Handcuffing Apalachee High School Shooter

Officer Mike Williams never expected to encounter a school shooting while on patrol that day. He was making his rounds when he received a distress call from Apalachee High School, reporting an active shooter in the building.

Upon arrival, Officer Williams entered the school with another officer and made their way to the affected area. What he found was chaotic – students and teachers running and screaming, while the shooter continued to fire rounds.

Williams remembers seeing a young student trying to escape the classroom, holding her stomach. That’s when he saw the shooter, calmly and deliberately taking shots at innocent bystanders. “He wasn’t done,” Williams recalls.

With his training and instincts guiding him, Officer Williams quickly made his way towards the shooter. “I saw my opportunity to engage,” he said. Without hesitation, Williams sprinted towards the shooter and disarmed him.

As they struggled to regain control, another officer arrived to assist. Together, they handcuffed the shooter, bringing an end to the tragedy. Officer Williams’ bravery and quick thinking saved countless lives that day.
