Venice, Tokyo Introduce Alcohol Bans on New Year’s Eve

In a bid to curb rowdy behavior and ensure public safety, the city of Venice in Italy and Tokyo in Japan have announced a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol on New Year’s Eve.

In Venice, the ban will be in place from 6pm on December 31st to 6am on January 1st, with the city’s mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, citing concerns over the large crowds that gather in St. Mark’s Square to celebrate the start of the new year. The ban will apply to all bars, restaurants, and shops in the city center, with those found to be violating the rules facing fines of up to €1,000.

Meanwhile, in Tokyo, the Metropolitan Police Department has announced a similar ban on the sale of alcohol in public places from 6pm on December 31st to 6am on January 1st. The ban is aimed at preventing overcrowding and reducing the risk of accidents and other incidents. The police have also warned that those found to be intoxicated in public will be subject to fines and possible arrest.

The bans are seen as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety and prevent any potential disturbances during the celebrations.
