Authorities Return to New Orleans Terrorist’s Home as Investigation Continues
FBI Houston and local authorities have returned to the home of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a suspected terrorist, as their investigation into the deadly New Year’s Eve attack in New Orleans continues.
Meanwhile, a Utah State University student, Joshua Peter Jager, 20, was arrested and charged with causing a catastrophe recklessly and disorderly conduct after authorities say he contaminated his dorm with hydrochloric acid gas, forcing a mass evacuation.
Jager was questioned by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force days earlier after a fire alarm was triggered in his room, and authorities found a large stash of chemicals, including silver nitrate and potassium carbonate, along with machinery, tools, and many batteries. He claimed he had the chemicals for years and did not use them to create an explosive or drug.
The FBI joined the interview and questioned him about any ties to terrorist organizations, which he denied. He claimed he made a “mistake” by bringing the chemicals into the dorm.
The incident occurred just hours after Jager was questioned by the FBI, and the mass evacuation caused a “contamination issue” for everyone who was forced to leave the dorm. The estimated cost of cleanup and restoration is between $10,000 to $20,000, with labor and overtime costs adding to the expense.
The university has stated that the investigation is ongoing and “other charges” may be added.
