If congressional Republicans intend to deliver on their promises of a booming economy and stable prices, they should quickly unwind the disastrous energy policies imposed by the Biden-Harris regime. President Biden is using his final days in office to further restrict American energy production, implementing an offshore drilling ban on over 625 million acres of coastline. This move makes it difficult for the incoming administration to reverse course and restore the American economy.
The Biden-Harris administration has consistently made fossil-fuel-based energy production more expensive, leading to high energy prices and slow economic growth. President Biden has blocked the Keystone XL pipeline, canceled leases and halted development of new energy sources, and prohibited the development of new liquified natural gas export terminals. These policies have driven inflation, with the average American paying 29% more for electricity and 31% more for gasoline since President Biden took office.
Congress can help restore American energy independence by demanding the Department of Interior approve more lease sales, particularly offshore. Existing federal regulations prolong the permitting approval process, crippling LNG and oil producers. Congress can reform the bureaucratic permitting process to reduce unnecessary judicial oversight and make reviews concurrent rather than consecutive.
It will take an all-hands-on-deck effort to unwind President Biden’s destructive energy policies, and congressional Republicans should stand ready to take the handcuffs off American energy.
