Universal’s Classic Monster Revival Continues with Wolf Man Remake
Universal’s reboot of their classic monsters, including Dracula, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man, is gaining momentum. The studio has announced that the long-gestating project for a Wolf Man remake is finally moving forward, with Blumhouse and Universal producing the film.
The project was initially delayed, with various production issues and the departure of original star Ryan Gosling seemingly putting the project on hold. However, Universal has confirmed that the film is still on track for a 2025 release.
To get fans excited for the new film, Universal has released a brief teaser, which introduces a family who visits a remote cabin in Oregon, only to find themselves facing a terrifying transformation. A full trailer was also released at New York Comic Con in October, which showed the family struggling to survive the night as the patriarch becomes a werewolf.
The film is being directed by Leigh Whannell, who also helmed the 2020 horror film The Invisible Man. The story is being recontextualized as a body horror tale, with a focus on the family’s struggle to survive the night.
The Wolf Man remake stars Christopher Abbott, with Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, Sam Jaeger, and Benedict Hardie also joining the cast.
The film is set to hit theaters on January 17, 2025. With the success of The Invisible Man, Universal’s approach to reviving their classic monsters with standalone stories is clearly paying off.
