UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting suspect flees to Chicago by train.

Suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Murder Fled Manhattan via Train, Not Bus

Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was charged with murder after allegedly shooting Thompson on December 4 as he was walking into the Hilton in Midtown Manhattan. Mangione was on the run for five days before being caught in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Initially, investigators thought Mangione had taken a bus out of the city, but new reports suggest he actually took the subway from the George Washington Bridge bus station to Penn Station and then bought a train ticket to Pennsylvania. Mangione is being held at a prison in Pennsylvania awaiting extradition to New York, where he was denied bail.

Mangione’s arrest was made at a McDonald’s in Altoona, where he presented local police with a fake ID and appeared to start shaking when they asked if he had been in New York recently. Authorities also found a handwritten manifesto condemning the health care industry, specifically mentioning UnitedHealthcare.

Mangione faces numerous charges in both New York and Pennsylvania, including murder, criminal weapons possession, and forgery. While officials have not commented on a motive, the public has speculated that Mangione had strong grievances with the health care industry and capitalism.

UnitedHealthcare revealed that Mangione was not covered by the company’s insurance.
