UnitedHealth Group’s tech unit, Change Healthcare, has been affected by the largest healthcare data breach in the United States. The cyberattack, which occurred last year and was perpetrated by the “Blackcat” ransomware group, has compromised the personal information of 190 million people.

The affected information includes health insurance member IDs, patient diagnoses, treatment information, social security numbers, and billing codes used by providers. While the company has not detected any misuse of the stolen information, it has provided individual or substitute notice to the vast majority of those impacted.

The cyberattack caused widespread disruptions in claims processing and affected patients and providers across the country. Change Healthcare issued a public notice about the hack in June last year as part of its requirements under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
