[A shooting at a pop-up party in Houston left two 16-year-olds dead and three others wounded, including a 13-year-old girl who is now in critical condition. The shooting occurred at around 11:20 pm local time when law enforcement arrived at the scene and found a large crowd of people running out of a makeshift club. A 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 16-year-old girl was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
At least three other people were shot, including the 13-year-old girl, who is now in critical condition, and a 19-year-old woman who transported herself to the hospital. Police have not yet identified a suspect and are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
The party was attended by mostly juveniles, and the scene was described as chaotic, with people running around and trying to get away from the shooting. Menendez-Sierra, an assistant chief with the Houston Police, said that these types of non-sanctioned parties have been occurring lately, often pop up on social media and lack regulations, which can lead to serious problems.
The department will put all its resources into the ongoing investigation, and police are cautioning teenagers against participating in pop-up parties, which can quickly lead to chaos and violence. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonalez said in a statement that pop-up parties raise public safety concerns and teens need to stay away for their own safety.
