[President Trump Delivers Remarks on California Wildfires
President Donald Trump delivered remarks during a fire emergency meeting in Pacific Palisades, California, where he discussed his meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom earlier in the day. Trump said he had a “very positive talk” with Newsom, stating, “We have to work together to get this really worked out.”
The President also announced that he will sign an executive order to open up pumps and valves in the north, allowing water to flow from the Pacific Northwest to Southern California in an effort to fight the fires. Experts have previously stated that there is no connection between water battles in Northern California and hydrants running dry during the LA fires.
Trump reflected on the devastation he witnessed firsthand, describing the damage as “incineration” and “not even believable.” He also toured the Palisades neighborhood with reporters, where he saw the damage caused by the fires.
During the roundtable, Trump and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass briefly clashed over rebuilding efforts. A homeowner pressed Bass on the timeline for the Army Corps of Engineers to allow local residents to rebuild their homes, and Bass replied that the city would move as fast as possible while prioritizing safety. Trump intervened, agreeing with the homeowner’s suggestion to clear debris themselves to avoid further delay.
The meeting also highlighted the complex dynamic between Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been a vocal critic of the President’s policies. The two leaders have a history of clashes, and their relationship has been marked by personal and petty disputes.
