The White House has launched a new social media account, Rapid Response 47, aimed at holding “fake news” accountable and supporting President Donald J. Trump’s America First agenda. The account’s first message read: “Welcome to the official Rapid Response account of the Trump 47 White House. We will be supporting President Donald J. Trump’s America First agenda and holding the Fake News accountable for their lies. Let’s Make America Great Again!”
The account is a follow-up to the “fake news” label first used by President Trump’s first administration to discredit certain news outlets for reporting content that Trump deemed biased and intended to undermine his leadership. The new account’s focus on “lies” promoted by the media is seen as a continuation of this strategy.
A senior GOP strategist celebrated the new account, saying it was “bad news for the fake news media and good news for the American people.” The strategist noted that President Trump’s previous efforts to counter “fake news” were instrumental in his re-election.
President Trump has long been critical of the media, frequently using social media platforms like Truth Social to label reports he disagrees with as “fake news.” The new account is an extension of this effort, focusing on promoting fact-based information and calling out perceived biases in the media.
