U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed that he will attend the state funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday at the age of 100. The funeral is scheduled to take place on January 9 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
Trump made the announcement while attending a New Year’s Eve party at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. He also predicted that House Speaker Mike Johnson would win the vote for the House’s top job, citing his popularity among Republicans.
In a separate comment, Trump seemed to suggest that only Johnson had the support necessary to win the vote, saying that “almost everybody likes him” and that others may have 30 or 40 people who do not like them.
