Several liberal media commentators have lashed out at President-elect Donald Trump’s supporters in recent days, as the year winds down and as Biden prepares to exit the White House.
Lincoln Project founder Rick Wilson mocked Trump supporters, saying they are “hyperpopulist, non-college-educated” and that they believe “brown people bad” when they hear the words “immigrant” or “visa”. Wilson also claimed that Trump supporters believe they could have been successful if it weren’t for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) or immigration.
Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin suggested that Trump supporters couldn’t read and that they are convinced that if they moved slightly to the right, they would start reading The Washington Post. Rubin also wrote a column advising against reaching out to the other side to find common ground with Trump allies and supporters.
CNN’s Don Lemon called Trump supporters “dumb f—ing idiots” and mocked their “stupid MAGA brain”, saying they are part of a cult and deserve to be gloated over for their stupidity. MSNBC’s Eddie Claude Jr. argued that hatred, selfishness, and greed are essential parts of Trump’s movement, and that it is centered around the plutocrat Elon Musk.
MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace agreed with Claude, saying that understanding Trumpism is essential to beating it, and that it is centered around greed, selfishness, and hatred. President Biden also referred to Trump supporters as garbage during a campaign call, although the White House and the president himself tried to walk it back.
