President-elect Trump Seeks to Make Greenland Great Again, Claims Americans are “Healing” The Land
In a recent Truth Social post, President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his long-standing desire to take ownership of Greenland. Trump claimed that he is hearing the people of Greenland are supportive of his views, citing a video of a man in a MAGA hat saying, “Buy us. Buy Greenland.” Trump believes that taking control of Greenland would be in the best interests of the U.S. due to its “incredible place” and resources.
Trump confirmed that he will visit Greenland soon and plans to bring his son, Donald Trump Jr., who is expected to go in a personal capacity. During his trip, Trump plans to explore the country’s “most magnificent areas and sights.”
In response to Trump’s claims, Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede has expressed interest in gaining independence from Denmark and becoming a fully autonomous nation.
This is not the first time Trump has voiced his desire to buy Greenland, with his considering purchasing the land back in 2019. He floated the idea, citing strategic and financial benefits, such as Denmark “hurting badly” due to carrying the expense of the territory.
