President-elect Trump Predicts Biden Would Pardon His Son Hunter
In a statement made to Fox News in October, President-elect Trump expressed his prediction that President Biden would pardon his son, Hunter Biden. When asked if he would consider pardoning Hunter Biden in the name of unity, Trump responded, “I won’t do anything that would be over in terms of Hunter. It’s a sad situation. I’ll bet you the father probably pardons him, let’s see what happens, but he’s a bad boy, there is no question about it.”
This forecast came to fruition when President Biden announced on Sunday, December 1, that he would be pardoning his son Hunter Biden, who had been convicted of three felony firearm offenses earlier this year and pleaded guilty to multiple felony tax offenses in September.
In defense of his decision, Biden accused Republicans of unfair treatment and claimed that Hunter had been “treated differently” by prosecutors. According to Biden, his son was subjected to “selective and unfair prosecution.”
Biden also emphasized that Hunter had been struggling with substance abuse and was committed to his recovery, using his platform to bring awareness to the issue and evoke empathy from the American people. The President stated that he would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decisions, but felt that enough was enough and it was time to put the saga behind them.
This is not the first time the President has spoken about potential pardons for his family members. In 2019, he tweeted, “I have no ‘right’ to grant immunity, but I am asking the Department of Justice (DOJ) to determine whether they can. Is it possible that even badly broken criminals like Hunter could be granted immunity in various forms?”
