President-Elect Donald Trump Says He May Pardon New York City Mayor Eric Adams
President-elect Donald Trump said on Monday that he would “certainly look at” issuing a pardon for New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who has pleaded not guilty to federal corruption charges. Trump made the comment during a press briefing at his resort home in Florida.
Trump suggested that Adams was treated unfairly, saying “I think that he was treated pretty unfairly.” He also downplayed the charges against the mayor, calling them “nothing” and saying that Adams was only accused of “getting an upgrade on an international flight.”
Trump also hinted that politics may have been involved in the prosecution of Adams. He claimed that Adams “went against what was happening with the migrants coming in” and “made some pretty strong statements” against the Biden administration’s immigration policies. Trump said that he had predicted that Adams would be indicted, and when he was, Trump said “I would certainly look at” issuing a pardon.
Adams has denied any wrongdoing and has claimed that he has been targeted over his criticism of the Biden administration’s immigration policies. He has also said he is not in communication with Trump about a potential pardon.
