President Donald Trump Discuses TikTok, Fentanyl, and Trade with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Phone Call
President-elect Donald Trump spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, discussing a range of topics including TikTok, fentanyl, trade, and more. According to Trump, the call was a “very good one for both China and the U.S.A.”
Trump wrote on Truth Social that the pair discussed “balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe!”
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that Xi and Trump expressed hope for greater progress in US-China relations after the call. The meeting comes as a new federal law is set to take effect, effectively banning the popular video-sharing app TikTok in the US, starting Sunday. Trump, who has credited TikTok with helping him defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2022 election, has yet to comment on how he plans to handle the impending ban.
