I’m Not Thrilled that Donald Trump Has Renewed His Attack on the “Corrupt Media”
President-elect Trump has renewed his attack on the “corrupt media” just days after claiming he had “tamed” the press and was getting better coverage. The latest targets of his ire are the Des Moines Register and gold-standard pollster Ann Selzer, who projected him losing by 4 points in Iowa before he won the state by 13 points. Trump is also pursuing legal action against CBS for the “60 Minutes” blunder, in which Kamala Harris’ response was substituted in a different question.
The president-elect appears to take pleasure in putting his perceived opponents through the ordeal and considerable expense of defending themselves. However, legal experts say he is unlikely to win these suits. In the past, Trump has used his attack mode just days after speaking positively about the press. This suggests that his willingness to put aside his antagonism is fleeting.
During a press conference, Trump displayed some positive aspects, including a seriousness of purpose and moderation on divisive issues. However, he still has his critics in mind, mentioning the “brazen election interference” he claims he faced. Despite this, Trump’s overall demeanor seemed more subdued than in the past.
It remains to be seen if Trump will continue to follow through on his threats, but for now, his attack on the media looks set to continue. Round-the-clock Trump coverage seems to be making a comeback, even if it is a month early.
