Trump Jr. Expected to Visit Greenland Amid Father’s Call for US Ownership.

[Donald Trump Jr. is expected to visit Greenland on Tuesday, just weeks after his father, US President-elect Donald Trump, sparked controversy by reviving his desire to obtain control over the autonomous Danish territory.

In a Truth Social post, the president-elect confirmed the trip, saying he would be accompanied by “various representatives” to visit the island’s “most magnificent areas and sights.” He also expressed his interest in taking over the vast Arctic territory, stating, “Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside world. Make Greenland Great Again!”

The trip is not an official visit, according to Denmark’s foreign ministry, which has declined to comment further. The ministry has also not confirmed if the trip is related to any ongoing efforts to purchase the island, as the US president-elect has previously suggested.

The US president-elect’s desire to obtain Greenland is not a new idea, as he previously floated the possibility of purchasing the island from Denmark in his first term as president. However, the idea was rejected by the island’s government, which stated that Greenland is “not for sale.”

Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede has reiterated that the island is “not for sale and will never be for sale,” while Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has described the idea as “absurd.” The US is not the first country to express an interest in controlling Greenland, as previous US leaders, including Harry Truman and William Seward, have also shown interest in the region.

Greenland’s prime minister has recently called for the island to break free from “the shackles of colonialism,” but did not mention the United States in his remarks. The US military has a significant presence in Greenland, with Thule Air Base, its northernmost base, located about 750 miles above the Arctic Circle.
