President-elect Donald Trump will hold a campaign-style rally in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, a day before his inauguration for a second term. The “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” will take place at the Capital One Arena and is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. ET. The rally marks Trump’s first major speech in Washington since his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in protest against his defeat.
The event is expected to resemble Trump’s free-wheeling arena speeches, and will feature speeches from notable figures including Elon Musk, Vice President-elect JD Vance, and conservative commentator Megyn Kelly. The rally will also include performances by several musicians, including Kid Rock and The Village People.
Trump’s rally remarks, along with his inaugural address on Monday, could offer a preview of the tone he plans to adopt in the early days of his second term in office. In recent weeks, Trump has made headlines for his comments on foreign policy, including his musings about taking over Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden will make his last official trip as president on Sunday to Charleston, South Carolina, to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He will attend services and speak about King’s legacy at Royal Missionary Baptist Church.
On Monday, Trump will be sworn in for his second term at noon ET, after the cold weather prompted organizers to move the ceremony indoors. Approximately 25,000 law enforcement personnel will be on hand to provide security.
