President Donald Trump Kicks Off Second Term with Strong Polling Numbers
President Donald Trump has kicked off his second term in the White House in a stronger polling position than during the start of his first administration eight years ago, according to a new national poll. The Quinnipiac University survey released on Wednesday indicates that 46% of voters approve of the job the Republican president is doing so far, with 43% disapproving.
The poll, conducted from January 23-27, shows a significant improvement from Quinnipiac’s polling in late January 2017, when Trump began his first term, with 36% approval and 44% disapproval.
The survey also highlights a predictable partisan divide over Trump, with 86% of Republicans approving of his job performance, while 86% of Democrats disapprove. Among independents, 41% approve, while 46% disapprove, with 13% not offering an opinion.
Trump’s approval rating is below that of his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, who stood at 49%-36% in his first Quinnipiac poll in February 2021. However, Trump’s rating is an improvement from his first term, and he has maintained a frenetic pace in his first week and a half in office, fulfilling some of his major campaign promises and flexing his executive muscles.
The poll also addresses several other issues, including Trump’s order to send U.S. troops to the southern border, which has a majority of support among voters, as well as his pardoning of over 1,500 individuals convicted in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, which has a majority disapproval.
