President-elect Donald Trump plans to attend the state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter, which is set to take place on January 9 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Trump made the announcement while attending a New Year’s Eve party at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, saying that he was “invited” to the event.
Trump also spoke about the upcoming election for House Speaker, which is set to take place on Friday, saying that he believes only House Speaker Mike Johnson can win the vote. He praised Johnson, stating that he is “the one that can win right now” and that “almost everybody likes him.”
Trump was also asked about his apparent shift in stance on the use of H-1B visas to attract foreign workers, which have been a topic of controversy in recent days. Trump had previously criticized the program, but recently sided with tech CEO Elon Musk in defending it as a way to import talented workers. Trump said that he believes the program is necessary to bring in “the most competent people” to the country, as well as to fill a variety of jobs that will be created in the future.
Trump’s comments on the H-1B visa program came as he was partying with a number of high-profile guests, including Musk, Senator Ted Cruz, and other supporters, at the black tie event.
