President-elect Donald Trump Named TIME 2024 Person of the Year
President-elect Donald Trump was named the TIME 2024 Person of the Year on Thursday morning. The recognition comes as a result of his political resurrection and his tumultuous 2024. In an interview with Time magazine, Trump spoke candidly about the first attempt on his life in July, noting that it changed a lot of people’s perspective on him, and maybe even their views on Divine Providence.
Trump believes that the assassination attempt, which occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, helped bring more supporters to his side ahead of his decisive victory. He told Time, “I think a lot of people changed with that moment. I think a lot of people became much more religious in that moment.”
Trump also spoke about the size of the crowd at the initial rally, where the shooting happened, and the crowd size at his subsequent rally, which doubled as a memorial for Corey Comperatore, who was killed in the shooting. When asked if he became more religious because of his close brush with death, Trump replied, “I think I have family members that became more of a believer than they would have been. A lot of people, a lot of people change.”
Trump also mentioned the way in which the shooting changed minds and gained him new fans. He cited examples such as billionaire Elon Musk, who was a Democrat, and Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg, stating that the shooting “speeded up” their support for him. Trump did not view the change as bravery, but rather as whatever it was that occurred after the shooting.
