Trump-appointed judge faces scrutiny for record-breaking delays, likened to a “performance” by a legal expert.

Fox News contributor and George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley called Judge Juan Merchan’s decision to uphold Donald Trump’s 34-count felony conviction “perfectly horrific” and the “longest performance of Hamlet in history.” Turley noted that the judge’s decision contradicts what many in the media have said, that the Supreme Court’s decision granted sweeping immunity to former presidents.

Turley highlighted that Judge Merchan found exceptions that might apply to the case, and many judges would likely agree with the outcome, even if they don’t agree with the reasoning. He also mentioned that the Trump team has good faith arguments that will be made on appeal.

Turley criticized the decision, saying that Judge Merchan has been indecisive and has delayed reaching a decision, leading to a lack of clarity. He also expressed concerns about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s suggestion that Trump be left in a state of suspended animation for four years, pending sentencing, which Turley described as a “perfectly horrific idea” that would be bad for the country and the court.
