President-elect Trump and President Biden paid tribute to the late Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, who died at the age of 100 on Sunday. Trump described Carter as a leader who “did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans” and expressed gratitude for his service. Biden, who referred to Carter as a “dear friend,” hailed him as an “extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian” who worked tirelessly to eradicate disease, promote peace, and advance human rights.

Trump wrote on Truth Social: “The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.”

Biden said: “The world lost an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian. Over six decades, we had the honor of calling Jimmy Carter a dear friend. But, what’s extraordinary about Jimmy Carter, though, is that millions of people throughout America and the world who never met him thought of him as a dear friend as well.”

Vice President Kamala Harris also paid tribute to Carter, calling his life “a testament to the power of service” and praising his work through the Carter Center to promote peace, democracy, and human dignity.
