Trudeau Praises Himself as “Proud Feminist” after Harris’s Loss to Trump

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Declares Himself a “Proud Feminist”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared himself a “proud feminist” during a speech at a gala for Equal Voice, an organization that works to improve gender representation in Canada’s politics. Trudeau lamented the recent setback for women’s progress, citing the loss of Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election to President-elect Trump.

Trudeau stated that women’s rights and progress are under attack, both overtly and subtly, and pledged to be an ally to women and his government in the fight for their rights. The remarks come at a time when relations between the U.S. and Canada are tense over issues such as immigration and the flow of illicit drugs into the U.S.

Earlier this month, Trudeau met with President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida to discuss topics such as the economy, illegal immigration, and a proposed 25% tariff. During the meeting, Trudeau warned Trump that the tariff would kill the Canadian economy completely, prompting Trump to respond by asking if Canada couldn’t survive unless it’s “ripping off the U.S. to the tune of $100 billion?”

Trump then joked that Canada should become the 51st state, which caused Trudeau and others to laugh nervously. The meeting was described as “very productive” by both Trump and Trudeau.
