Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce celebrated his historic touchdown catch last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a nod to the legendary Tony Gonzalez. Kelce dunked the football through the goalposts, a tradition Gonzalez was known for during his career with the Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons. The touchdown was Kelce’s 77th of his career, passing Gonzalez on the all-time list.
However, the celebration came with a cost. Kelce was fined $14,069 for “Unsportsmanlike Conduct Use of Prop,” according to reports. Tony Gonzalez, now an analyst for X, jokingly tweeted about the fine, saying “lol! I got u” and complimented Kelce on the dunk.
This season, Kelce has not had his typical performance, struggling to get going early in the season. He didn’t have his first touchdown catch until the 10th week, and his receiving yards total is the lowest since his second year in the league. Despite this, he was still voted to the Pro Bowl, marking his 10th selection.
The Kansas City Chiefs will wrap up the regular season against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, with a bye week in the first round of the playoffs.
