2024 Heisman Trophy Finalists Announced, Favorites Shine
The 2024 Heisman Trophy finalists were announced on Monday, featuring four standout players who made a significant impact on the college football scene. Among the finalists, Travis Hunter from Colorado and Ashton Jeanty from Boise State are considered the front-runners to take home the award.
Travis Hunter, a two-way star, has had a phenomenal season, playing on both offense and defense for the Buffaloes. He finished in the top five in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and passes defended. Pro Football Focus gave him the top coverage grade of the season.
On offense, Hunter had 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns, averaging 96.0 yards through the air per game. On defense, he defended 11 passes, collected four interceptions, and made 32 combined tackles over the course of the season.
Meanwhile, Ashton Jeanty, a running back for Boise State, has had a historic season. He led college football in rushing yards (2,497), rushing touchdowns (29), total touchdowns (30), and rush attempts (344). The junior helped the Broncos to a Mountain West Conference title and earned a bye in the College Football Playoff as the No. 3 seed.
The other finalists are Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami quarterback Cam Ward. Gabriel led the Ducks to an undefeated regular season at 13-0, passing for 3,558 yards and 28 touchdowns. Ward, another potential first overall pick in 2025, had an impressive season with 4,123 passing yards and 36 touchdowns, despite starting at a lower level out of high school.
The four finalists will vie for the prestigious Heisman Trophy, and while opinions may vary, Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty are considered the leading candidates to take home the award.
