Three Firefighters and 12 Passengers Injured in Florida Train Collision with Fire Truck
Three firefighters and 12 passengers were injured when a train collided with a fire truck on an emergency call in Delray Beach, Florida on Saturday morning, authorities said. An investigation is underway, led by the Delray Beach Police Department, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the train operator Brightline, which provides passenger rail service between Orlando and Miami.
The three Delray Beach firefighters were transported to a hospital with stable conditions. The passengers on the train sustained minor injuries. There were no fatalities.
The collision occurred at 10:45 a.m., prompting the temporary shutdown of the roadway, and authorities expect it to remain closed until the investigation and necessary cleanup are complete.
The cause of the incident is not yet known, although Brightline began its operations in South Florida in 2018. This is not the first incident involving a Brightline train, as the company expanded service to Orlando from South Florida in September 2023. The Federal Railroad Administration found 34 people were killed in incidents involving Brightline trains between September 2023 and June 2024 along the Orlando-to-Miami route.
The safety campaign at Brightline, which encourages people to sign a safety pledge online, has gathered over 45,000 pledges.
