Tourists injured in Christmas Day taxi crash at popular NYC destination



A taxi cab plowed into a group of pedestrians in busy New York City, leaving at least six injured at an iconic tourist hot spot on Christmas Day. The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that a taxi cab struck a group of pedestrians at Herald Square at 6th Avenue and West 34th Street just after 4 p.m. ET.

The taxi cab driver, a 58-year-old man, was identified by police but they did not share what led to the crash. Six patients in various conditions were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities reported that a 9-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with lacerations to his leg, a 41-year-old female was taken to the hospital with a head injury, and a 49-year-old female was taken to the hospital with a leg injury. The other individuals refused further medical treatment following the crash.

Herald Square is a popular tourist destination, especially during the holiday season, where Broadway, Sixth Avenue and 34th Street meet. No one was arrested following the accident, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

The area is known for its festive atmosphere and heavy foot traffic, making it a prime location for holiday shopping and dining. The crash has left many wondering what led to the taxi cab’s sudden departure from the road and its collision with the pedestrians.
