Top Democrats rally behind Biden’s ability to serve.

Members of the media, top Democrats, and other leadership ran a passionate defense of President Biden throughout his term as questions swirled around the president’s ability to serve a second term, and his mental fitness prior to him eventually dropping out of the race. The Wall Street Journal reported that Biden’s stamina issues were apparent within his first few months in office, citing interviews with nearly 50 people, including current and former White House staffers who interacted directly with the president.

One former aide recalled a national security official explaining why a meeting was canceled, saying, “He has good days and bad days, and today was a bad day, so we’re going to address this tomorrow.” The White House pushed back on the substance of the Journal’s report, saying Biden’s policy accomplishments provide “indisputable proof” of his qualifications and leadership.

Several high-profile figures, including MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, Vice President Kamala Harris, and General Mark Milley, came to the president’s defense, dismissing concerns about his ability to serve. Scarborough, in particular, lashed out at those questioning the president’s fitness, saying, “If you can’t handle the truth, f-you.”

The White House also highlighted Biden’s daily interactions with Cabinet members, including Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, who called him “one of the most accomplished presidents in American history” and “still effectively leading our country with a steady hand.” Other senior officials, such as Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, also expressed confidence in Biden’s ability to serve.

Scarborough and other supporters pointed to the president’s intelligence, analysis, and judgment, saying he was at his best, intellectually and analytically, and dismissing concerns about his age and fitness for office. The White House and its allies emphasized that the president’s daily policy accomplishments and leadership demonstrate his capabilities, pushing back against reports and critics questioning his ability to serve.
