Tony Dungy Shuts Down Rumors of Potential Senate Bid

Tony Dungy Denies Rumors of Running for Michigan Senate Seat

Former NFL coach Tony Dungy has made his political stances known, attending conservative rallies and speaking out on issues such as abortion rights. However, he has no plans to run for public office himself. A recent rumor surfaced claiming that Dungy was considering a run for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat as a Republican, but he quickly denied the speculation.

“Not sure where this idea came from but it didn’t come from me,” Dungy said. “I love my home state of Michigan. I pray they will elect a Senator who honors the Lord and leads the people well. But I can assure you it won’t be me.”

Dungy cited two reasons for not running: he is not a politician and he currently resides in Florida. The seat in question is currently held by Democrat Gary Peters, who has announced he will not seek re-election next year.

Michigan has not elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate in over 30 years, and Peters’ seat has been held by Democrats since 1972.
