The Philadelphia Eagles Dominated the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game, Earn a Spot in Super Bowl LIX
Seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady was in the broadcast booth at Lincoln Financial Field for the Eagles’ 55-23 victory over the Commanders. At one point during the game, television cameras panned to former Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles, who was sitting in one of the stadium’s suites. Brady, who suffered a loss to Foles and the Eagles in Super Bowl LII, recalled the infamous loss. Brady jokingly admitted to being jealous of Foles, saying “I don’t hate you. I’m just jealous of you. You caught it, I didn’t.”
The two had a famous connection during Super Bowl LII, when Foles became the first player in Super Bowl history to throw and catch a touchdown pass. The play, known as the “Philly Special,” was a trick play that resulted in a one-yard touchdown by Foles. The play came after Brady failed to catch a pass from one of his wide receivers, a moment that Eagles fans have not let him forget.
Brady, who has appeared in a record 10 Super Bowls, has been defeated in three of those games, all by Foles. Foles and Eli Manning are the only starting quarterbacks to have beaten Brady in the Super Bowl. Foles’ second stint with the Eagles ended after the 2018 season, and he went on to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts before last appearing in an NFL game in 2022.
The Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9 in New Orleans. A victory would mark the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship, while a win for the Chiefs would secure an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title.
