News of Bill Belichick interviewing for the vacant North Carolina Tar Heels head coach vacancy took the football world by surprise. However, one of his former pupils, Tom Brady, cannot see him taking the job. During “Fox NFL Sunday,” Brady discussed Belichick’s interview with UNC alongside his former New England Patriots teammates Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski.
Brady believed Belichick would not want to deal with the recruiting side of things, citing the chaos and uncertainty of college football. He joked about Belichick speaking with a recruit, saying “Listen, do you really want to come here? I mean, we don’t really want you anyway, but I guess you could come, we’ll figure out if you play.”
Edelman and Gronkowski also gave their takes, with Gronkowski wondering how Belichick would navigate the complexities of college football, including Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. Edelman joked about Belichick recruiting an 18-year-old, saying it’s hard to imagine.
Despite Belichick’s interview for the Tar Heels’ head coach position, there are already several NFL coaching vacancies that will need to be filled after this season. It remains to be seen where Belichick will end up, but he has been in the sports media space throughout this season.
