The Tennessee Titans have decided to bench second-year quarterback Will Levis and start backup quarterback Mason Rudolph, who is on a one-year deal, for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. The move gives the Titans a chance to show their improvement under first-year coach Brian Callahan, who was hired specifically for his offensive skills and experience with quarterbacks.
Callahan believes the change is necessary to spark the offense, saying, “I felt like it was the best thing for our team for these last few weeks to see what Mason can bring offensively.” Levis has struggled this season, throwing 12 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions in 11 starts, with 17 turnovers league-wide, despite missing three games and part of another due to a right throwing shoulder sprain.
Rudolph, who will start for the fourth time this season, has thrown for 1,015 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. He’s not focused on his future with the team or elsewhere in 2025, saying, “I’m focused on winning the game Sunday and celebrating with my teammates.”
Levis expressed his disappointment and remains confident he can still be a franchise quarterback, saying, “I think that I truly did improve and sure as heck don’t want to go out like that. And I know that there’s a positive future for me, whether it’s here or somewhere else.” He also emphasized that he doesn’t see the move as a final decision on his future with the Titans.
General manager Ran Carthon believes Levis has shown signs of improvement, but the team needs a spark, saying, “This is a year of great development for him. I think that I truly did improve and sure as heck don’t want to go out like that.”
