TikTok CEO thanks Trump for continued availability in US market.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew expresses gratitude to President-elect Donald Trump for his commitment to working with the company to find a solution that allows the app to remain available in the United States. The company has until January 19 to either sever ties with its China-based parent ByteDance or shut down its US operation to address national security concerns. The US Supreme Court has upheld a ban on TikTok, and a White House statement suggests that President-elect Biden will not take action to save the app before the deadline.

President Trump has stated that the future of TikTok will be up to him, but provided no detail on potential next steps. Media reports suggest that he is considering an executive order that would suspend the enforcement of the TikTok sale-or-ban law for 60 to 90 days.

Trump also discussed issues including TikTok during a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew plans to attend the US presidential inauguration on January 20, sitting among high-profile guests invited by Trump.
