Authorities in the United Kingdom Recover Stolen Van Filled with 2,500 Pies Worth £25,000

Thieves in the United Kingdom stole a van filled with 2,500 pies worth £25,000, or $32,000, owned by two-Michelin-starred restaurateur Tommy Banks. The van, carrying a variety of pies including steak and ale and turkey and butternut, was on its way to a Christmas market in York. Banks took to social media, asking followers to help locate the stolen pies, offering to reward anyone who found them.

Banks later confirmed that the stolen pies were found in the abandoned van, but they were too damaged to be sold or eaten. “It’s just so much waste. It’s just rubbish,” Banks lamented.

The pie incident is just one of several unusual food heists in the UK this year, with the most notable being a heist of 950 wheels of English cheddar in October.
