The Toxic Avenger Reboot Starring Peter Dinklage Set for Theatrical Release in 2025
The Toxic Avenger reboot, which stars Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, a downtrodden janitor who transforms into a superhero after a freak accident, has finally received a theatrical release window. The film, which made its debut at various festivals in 2023, will receive an unrated wide release in theaters sometime in 2025, announced Cineverse.
Director Macon Blair, producer Lloyd Kaufman, and Cineverse chairman and CEO Chris McGurk shared their excitement about the release, praising the film’s ability to balance humor and action, and its potential to appeal to a wide audience.
“I’m beyond grateful to the team behind The Toxic Avenger who were so supportive and steady-handed as we searched for the perfect distribution partner for our film,” said Blair. “It’s so cool that folks will have the chance to see this in theaters, it’s a fun, rowdy movie you wanna see with a crowd. Mutant hero smashes bad guys with a mop: perfect entertainment for the whole family!”
Kaufman, referring to the film as “Fantoxic,” predicted that fans of the original series would be thrilled with the reboot. “Michael Herz, Toxie and I have mopped our tears away! Macon Blair’s Fantoxic reimagining of Toxie’s life is even better than Troma’s!”
McGurk emphasized the importance of the film, citing its outrageous humor and unflinching creativity, saying, “The Toxic Avenger isn’t just a great film; it’s an important one. Peter Dinklage’s transformative performance and Macon Blair’s fearless direction deliver a story that speaks to the anxieties of our time.”
The Toxic Avenger will be released in 2025, following its recent festival circuit run, which included the opening film of Fantastic Fest and the Sitges Film Festival.
