The Golden State Warriors will retire four-time NBA champion Andre Iguodala’s No. 9 jersey.

Andre Iguodala, a beloved figure in the Bay Area, is being honored by the Golden State Warriors for his outstanding career. The team announced that Iguodala’s number 9 jersey will be retired, making him the seventh player to receive this distinction. Iguodala, who retired in October 2023 after 19 NBA seasons, is known for his grit, drive, and ability to do the little things that often go unnoticed.

Fans in the Bay Area are still stopping Iguodala to praise him for his example and the impact he had on their lives. Many have shared how his approach to the game and his values have influenced the way they raise their own children. Iguodala’s humility and willingness to learn from others have made him a respected figure in the basketball world.

The Warriors will honor Iguodala with a ceremony following an afternoon game against Dallas on February 23, which will also give his former teammate Klay Thompson the opportunity to attend. Warriors owner Joe Lacob praised Iguodala, saying he will go down as one of the smartest, shrewdest, and most unique and successful players to wear a Warriors uniform.

Iguodala’s career was marked by four NBA championships, including an NBA Finals MVP award in 2015. He was a defensive stopper who took on various roles and mentored teammates throughout his career. His ability to provide insight to coach Steve Kerr and his willingness to take on big assignments, such as guarding LeBron James in the 2015 Finals, have made him a respected figure in the basketball world.

Iguodala’s jersey retirement is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence. He will always be remembered as a true champion and a role model for fans and players alike.
