Doctor Doom Is The Next MCU Mega-Threat: Can He Survive Against The New Avengers?
The biggest problem about Avengers: Doomsday is that Doctor Doom honestly stands no chance against all of the MCU’s newest Avengers. Doctor Doom has only just been secured as the arch-villain of the Multiverse Saga after Marvel Studios moved away from Kang the Conqueror, changing the title of the fifth Avengers movie from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday. Given he will also be the arch-villain of Avengers: Secret Wars, this at least allows Doom to establish himself as a significant threat across two movies instead of just one.
Outside a cameo or post-credentials scene appearance, this MCU debut will not occur until May 1, 2026. In the lead-up, the MCU may finally start assembling its newest iteration of the Avengers, with the new Captain America, Sam Wilson, reportedly being tasked with the job in Captain America: Brave New World. By the time Avengers: Doomsday rolls around, there will be plenty of Avengers candidates in the running – and outside of some very specific circumstances, Doom is going to face a significant struggle.
Doctor Doom is one of the most formidable Marvel villains of all time, and the same will likely be true in the MCU, although he may not be as powerful as Thanos. However, with Kang’s defeat at the hands of one of the weaker Avengers, Doom has a chance to position himself on a par with Thanos. This will ostensibly be in Avengers: Doomsday, though he is suspected to at least cameo in Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The Avengers are vastly more powerful than they’ve ever been, with more potential god-tier Avengers than in the Infinity Saga. While they’ve lost a few key players, including the presumed Doom variant, Tony Stark, their ranks have been significantly bolstered since the last world-ending threat in Avengers: Endgame. Not only are there more heroes in the MCU’s Earth-616, but their power levels have increased. The most powerful Avengers veterans are still in operation, including Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Hulk, and Thor, while evidence mounts for the Scarlet Witch’s return. Then there is a litany of other immensely powerful potentials, including America Chavez, Deadpool, Hercules, Love, Sentry, Skaar, Wiccan, and Wolverine.
The Fantastic Four will also likely lead the charge against Doom alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Counting the World’s Smartest Man among their ranks would certainly make up for Tony Stark’s lost genius, while the sheer power of the Thing can rival Hulk. Considering Doom would generally pale in comparison to the power levels of an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Thanos, the fact that the Avengers are so much more powerful than before leaves a conspicuous question mark hanging over how Doom could possibly measure up to this new slate of adversaries.
The MCU needs to bring the most powerful Doctor Doom ever, as Doom is not as powerful as he needs to be until he gains god powers. Sufficient to say, the MCU will need to significantly bolster Doctor Doom’s powers if he is to stand a chance against a united front of new Avengers. While Doom is one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful villains, with a brilliant strategic mind bolstering his talents in sorcery and technology, it’s hard to see how he can strategize against an onslaught from just a few of the aforementioned heroes. This could ultimately lead to the Avengers’ victory in Avengers: Doomsday in an unusual subversion of expectations.
Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth Avengers film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will bring together heroes, new and old, to face off against Victor von Doom – played by the returning Robert Downey Jr. Avengers 5 will also mark the beginning of phase 6 of the MCU. Release Date: May 1, 2026, Studio(s): Marvel Studios.
