The Holiday: Solved the Amanda and Graham Mystery 9 Years Ago
The 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday, written and directed by Nancy Meyers, has all the elements of a successful and heartwarming rom-com. However, its ending left a big question mark over Amanda and Graham’s future together. Nine years ago, Meyers herself provided an answer to this mystery, and it’s a perfect one.
The film tells the story of two women, Iris and Amanda, who switch houses for the holidays to escape from their heartbreak. Despite the initial plan to clear their minds, they end up finding love in unexpected ways. Iris meets Miles, Amanda’s colleague, and Amanda meets Graham, a widowed book editor, single father, and Iris’ brother.
At the end of the movie, Iris, Amanda, Miles, Graham, and his daughters celebrate New Year’s Eve together, leaving Amanda and Graham’s future unclear. However, in an interview with Marie Claire in 2015, Meyers revealed what happened to the couple after the celebration. According to her, Amanda and Graham are now parents, and Amanda is “probably living in London.” Iris, on the other hand, is living in Los Angeles with Miles, the other main character from the movie.
The holiday does not need a sequel, but rumors about The Holiday 2 have persisted over the years. Despite reports of a sequel in development, Meyers has denied the rumors, and the original cast members, including Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, have also confirmed that they are not involved in a sequel. It seems that fans can rest assured that Amanda and Graham found a way to make their relationship work.
