TX Storm Threatens to Unleash Blackouts, Travel Chaos as Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Worsen
A powerful storm system is barreling towards Texas, threatening to unleash blackouts, travel disruptions, and flash flooding across the region.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a watch in effect for parts of the state, warning of an “enhanced risk” of severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, and damaging winds.
As much as 6-8 inches of rain could fall in some areas, with isolated totals reaching up to 12 inches in the mountains. The rain-cooled atmosphere will also lead to towering thunderstorms with strong winds, which can cause property damage and power outages.
Given the expected heavy rain and flash flooding, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for several counties, covering nearly 20 million people.
In addition to the rain, the storm is also expected to be packing strong winds. Gusts of 60-70 mph are possible, with isolated gusts reaching up to 80 mph in some areas. This is strong enough to cause property damage, especially if not properly secured.
The timing of the storm appears to be poor for travelers, as it coincides with the morning rush hour. Those heading to work or school tomorrow may face delays, and commutes could be particularly rough.
For those who must travel, the NWS recommends delaying their trip if possible. The agency did note, however, that the threat of flash flooding will continue to increase through the day, making it difficult to predict exactly where the worst of the storm will be.
In preparation for the severe weather, emergency management officials are urging residents to stock up on supplies, keep important documents and valuables safe, and stay informed about the latest updates from local authorities.
Given the unpredictable nature of severe weather, it’s crucial to monitor local reports and stay tuned for updates throughout the day.
